Biography

Aldo is a Professor (Associate) of Machine Learning at the University College London (UCL), where he is a member of the Natural Language Processing group. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from TU Wien in 2018. His academic journey includes a postdoctoral position at UCL and research visits to institutions such as NIST, NII (Tokyo), Microsoft Research, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Amsterdam. In 2025, he founded Eloquent AI, which develops AI operators for financial services.

Large Language Models

Understanding and improving reasoning and post-training learning techniques. Current projects include a collaboration with NVIDIA to train LLM for Browser Use.

Conversational Systems for Search & Recommendation

Developing and evaluating conversational systems, with a focus on user modelling and simulation.

Information System Evaluation

Focusing on biases, fairness, and evaluation metrics, with contributions to retrieval models, task-based search and the building of test collections.

Machine Learning

Applications in conversational systems, neural point processes, and deep learning for geospatial and environmental modeling.

Bias and Fairness

Addressing representation bias, pool bias, and fairness in search engines and language models.
